Jacques Enguerrand Gourgue (1930-1996) became established as a painter at the age of 17 and is considered a true master of modern Haitian art. His paintings are widely reproduced in books and catalogs about Haitian art, for example 7 color photos appear in the book Peintres Hatiens by Gerald Alexis.
